Faster, lighter bullets tend to produce greater temporary cavitation when they pass through tissue. Tissue that is close to water density and less elastic tends to sustain the greatest damage from this temporary cavity. More elastic tissue, such as lung, is less likely to be damaged when a temporary cavity forms within it.
