INTRODUCTION

Local anesthetics (Tables 36-1 and 36-2) are used to reduce pain from acute injury or procedures performed in the ED.1 The most common routes of administration include topical, subdermal, and infiltrative around peripheral nerves (regional anesthesia).2,3
