The most clinically relevant dyshemoglobinemias are carboxyhemoglobin, methemoglobin, and sulfhemoglobin.1 Carboxyhemoglobin is created during carbon monoxide exposure and, because of its unique importance and prevalence, is usually considered an environmental emergency (see chapter 222, "Carbon Monoxide").
