The  management  of  normal  labor  and  delivery  requires  a  basic  understanding  of  the  mechanisms  of  labor,  the  assessment  and  treatment  of  the  mother,  the  safe  delivery  of  the  infant,  and  careful  observation  of  both  in  the  immediate  postpartum  period.
